Summer Camps

Pricing:

Early Bird Registration (valid through March 8, 2026): UT Gardens Members $240/Non-members $255

Regular Registration: UT Gardens Members $270/Non-members $285

Prices apply to all camps and all campers unless otherwise noted.

Food:

All youth campers are expected to bring their own snack, lunch, and water bottle to camp each day. No peanuts or peanut products are allowed at camp.

Activities/attire:

Activites vary depending on the camp theme, but each week will include planting activities and a lesson on food systems/nutrition. Of course, all camps include exploration, play time, and games in the Gardens.

Youth Camps are primarily outdoors, campers should dress accordingly.

Drop-off/pick-up:

All camps are 8:30-3:30 Monday-Friday unless otherwise noted. There is no beforecare or aftercare available. Camp forms should be completed before 8:30 on Monday. Campers will not be permitted to remain at camp without registration forms complete. Campers attending more than one week of camp do not need to resubmit registration forms unless there have been important changes to their information.

Accessibility:

All university-sponsored public meetings and events at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, must be physically and programmatically accessible to individuals with disabilities. For questions or disability-related accommodations, please contact Whitney Hale at 865-974-4265 or whitneyhale@tennessee.edu 3 weeks out from your camp’s start date. Requests for accommodations can be addressed more effectively if submitted at least 10 days in advance.

Sow to Grow is a career-skill building summer program for teens (ages 13 to seniors in high school) with disabilities. This program is operated by the UT Gardens Therapeutic Horticulture Program.

Camp Descriptions

Campers will discover the enormous diversity and resilience of East Tennessee. We’ll investigate our region’s natural environments, plants, animals, and agriculture. Campers will also explore how people can coexist with nature right here in our cities.  

Ages 6-12

This week, campers will investigate all things habitat and ecosystems – plants, weather, animals, soil, natural history, geography, and more. The different ecosystems modeled in the gardens are perfect for exploring all the things that make nature a home for living creatures. We’ll also learn some of the methods explorers use to document undiscovered landscapes.  

Ages 6-12

Register for Eco-Explorer Camp!

Campers will dive into Plant Science, and the investigation techniques Botanists use to study plants. We’ll explore how plants adapt to their physical environment and their relationships with other living things in their habitat. Campers will also learn about the variety of opportunities in the Green Industry.

This week, campers will discover the magic of the nature world. Gardens are a perfect stage for storytelling, music, poetry, and imagination. We’ll combine the real ecosystems around us with the fantastical creatures from campers’ own imagination.

Register for Nature Enchantment Camp!

This week, campers will travel the globe through the plants at UT Gardens. We’ll explore the relationships people have formed with plants and the significance of plants native to our region. Campers will learn about the language of flowers and dive into botanical myths and legends from all over the world.

This week is all about creativity and inspiration from nature. We’ll explore the world of sound, light, and color in the gardens, and explore the beauty and bounty of our surroundings. Campers will also try some traditional crafts using natural materials.

This week, campers will investigate the animals that make their home in the Gardens. Everything from Bald Eagles hunting over the Tennessee River to earthworms in the soil. We’ll explore all the small details of their life cycles and habitats, and how we can help protect them.

Where does the food we eat come from? This week, campers will investigate their food systems, local agriculture, and Tennessee native fruits. With taste tests harvested straight from the Kitchen Garden, campers will experience fresh food and learn how they can support sustainable food in their communities.

This week, campers will explore one of Earth’s most vital resources: water! We’ll dive into different aquatic environments, including the Gardens’ Wetland, Floating Islands, and Rain Garden, in addition to nearby Third Creek and the Tennessee River. Campers will investigate these natural environments and wonder about people’s impact on them, and how we can all help keep our waterways clean and healthy!
