Acer pensylvanicum, commonly known as Striped Maple is a tree that may catch your eye while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. The bark is greenish brown with long, vertical, greenish white stripes. The 3-lobed leaf shape may be easily confused with Red Maple. It has brillant yellow fall color, and its bark is quite ornamental, but is difficult to grow under cultivation and should only be considered in naturalized situations.
