If you are interested in learning about woody plant material for temperate regions of the United States, you've come to the right place. This site is a tutorial focused on teaching the common names, botanical nomenclature, key identifying criteria, and uses of native and ornamental plants commonly used in East Tennessee.

By clicking on one of the menu items on the left, you access an index listing all the plants in that category. Search for a plant by common or scientific name. By clicking on a name, you open the tutorial that takes you step by step through useful information and photographs. After each tutorial, you can test your knowledge about that plant by taking a short quiz. If you would like to see the plant in person, the Maps menu will locate where you can find that plant on the University of Tennessee's Knoxville campus.
